The Louisiana-based Axis featured former Derringer members drummer Vinnie Appice and guitarist Danny Johnson, along with bassist Jay Davis. The power trio recorded It's a Circus World in 1978, under the watchful of eye of producer Andy Johns, at the Record Plant Studios, in New York.

The album consists of eleven original tracks that rock out in typical, no-frills '70s style. Introduced via the thumping, yet accessible "Brown Eyes", the prime cuts from the under-rated It's a Circus World include the chaotic "Armageddon", "Cats in the Alley", "Stormy Weather", the hard edged "Juggler" and the album closing title track. Countering the hard cuts, the restrained "Train" is a cool building track.

Johnson's guitar work is tasty throughout the entire effort, while the hard hittin' Appice proves he is more than Carmine's younger brother, as he pounds the skins with might. One album and out... there is no fuckin' justice.

One of my favorite hard rockin' albums of the 70's brought back to life...just some serious kick ass classic power trio hard rock...with big pounding drums and some smokin' guitar work. The Rock Candy remaster sounds a lot better than my Unidisc version from 1999 I believe...more powerful and detailed.
