Sometimes you can lose track even as an enthusiastic fan. The number of live albums and new editions is so huge in the case of SBB that “Budapest 1978”, published a few months ago, easily passed under its own radar. Because there had been an album from the same venue for a long time, namely the Budai Ifjusagi Park in Budapest, but this was from 1977. So with some delay it was still accessed and with it the own collection of another album from the one in the band's history The very productive year 1978 expanded.

The concert recording from Budapest on July 22, 1978, which was made around three weeks after the performance at the legendary Roskilde Festival , offers around 90 minutes of SBB at its best. Although you know a large part of the material and its presentation mainly from other performances from the same year, anyone who deals more intensively with the Polish progressive rockers knows that there is always room for extensive improvisations. The trio Józef Skrzek (vocals, keyboards), Apostolis Anthimos (guitar, drums) and Jerzy Piotrowski(Drums) relies above all on an extensive key arsenal, a lot of atmosphere and sometimes fast-paced playing, even the grandiose introduction with the indestructible instrumental 'Walkin' Around The Stormy Bay 'is gaining momentum.

Except for a fallen microphone, which briefly produced a nasty bang and a panel that was inserted too early towards the end of the concert, the sound, probably recorded directly from the mixer, is okay, even if everything comes out a bit dry and very directly from the speakers. But the rousing joy of playing, the instrumental interactions on guitar and keyboards more than make up for this shortcoming. 70s classics or longtracks such as 'Ze słowem biegnę do ciebie', 'Going Away' or 'Follow My Dream' are presented on stage with much more energetic and playful passion, everything also merges almost seamlessly and proves once again that The progressive power with which SBB acted in their heyday.

  2. I never know SBB had so many posthumously issued live albums. Never too much of a good thing I suppose. Thanks for all of them
