Mother Hen (Jane Getz) is a singer that fails to compare with anyone else. Her voice is so off-beat that it puts itself on a level away from anybody else. Her material and arrangements are all her own. Lyric-wise, she uses her vocals to express the feelings much in the same way that Neil did in After the Goldrush.
It is truly a unique mixture of folk, pop and American roots music with Jane's awesome lyrics. Back up by 1st class musicians like Clarence White, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkle.
ar from his homeland of gophers and mohair magicians on wheels

He was trippin' and crawlin'
Through cells of his body
In layers of bedrock and deep hidden wells

Synthetic lights shining like bright autumn moons
The gods must be jealous
Oh give them some room

The music here blends a variety of american-roots styles; somewhat reminiscent of The Band's first two albums, although it sounds quite different. Lyrics like Walt Whitman on acid. A band of top session players including Clarence White, Pete Kleinow, Lee Sklar, Russ Kunkle. These songs have been in my head since 1982, and for that I'm truly grateful.

Very nice early 70's folk rock with strong country rock leanings. Clarence White and Sneaky Pete make appearances, albeit minimal ones. Mother Hen (Jane Getz) plays a whole lot of piano, as well as pump organ and some other keyboards here, and plays very well indeed. Her piano playing in particular is gorgeous. The songwriting is very strong, the lyrics are very good, and the musical quality is top notch. The only thing that could take a little while to get used to is her odd, slightly nasal-sounding voice. Still, this is wholeheartedly recommended to fans of folk rock, and country rock.
