The blue-eyed soul band's third Hot Wax LP continues the soulful grooves paved on two previous long-players. A longstanding Detroit club band, it was widely believed they first cut on Ric Tic Records, but they actually debuted on Jack and Devora Brown's Fortune setup. Leader Jerry Plunk wrote some tracks, with others handled by Hot Wax's electric producing and writing corp. The themes fluctuate from message songs like "I'm Not My Brother's Keeper" to stark love missions like "1200 Miles From Heaven." Additional takes "Sunshine," the acid blues, more than seven minutes long, bonging "Ember's Groove," and "Stop the World and (Let Me Off)" make this a winning package.
Decent acid/soul outfit on Holland/Doziers Hot Wax label. Like a version of the psychedelic era Temptations, and arguably a bit more evenly consistent than any similar "Temp's" Lp from 1970/71, although the Temp's have much stronger individual tracks. Plays like a Temptations album as well with upbeat tracks mixed in with eerily similar sounding ballads like the title track. Some nice upbeat Motown like acid/soul track's like the opener "Living High Money Low" make this Lp worth a listen.
A smoking little set from Flaming Ember -- a rock group at the core, but one who has plenty of blue-eyed soul in the mix -- thanks to great production from Greg Perry, and strong arrangements from HB Barnum and McKinley Jackson -- all of whom give the record a vibe that's right up there with the best Hot Wax/Invictus soul sets of the time! There's a nice amount of fuzz in the grooves -- that post-Motown style that uses lots of great bass and guitar alongside core Detroit soul modes -- and although the vocals have more of a rockish approach, the instrumental undercurrent is a great mix of funk, rock, and soul!
It has been brought to my attention by one of the visitors of the site that the flac files I was given to share are actually lossy sourced. So download knowing that. And if someone has a true lossless copy I think a lot of us would be really grateful if it was shared. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the inconvenience to those who downloaded the album expecting true lossless.
