Luis Gasca surely is one of the greatest forgotten or underrated trumpet players. He worked with Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton, Janis Joplin, Santana, Malo and Mongo Santamaria, to name a few. This album in latin fusion and soul-jazz style is varied between easy going, lively and highly emotional with allways remarkable solo parts

Nice to see you paying tribute to Luis Gasca and his playing here at the Aural Surfing Odyssey. He was once a force within the Bay Area rock and jazz community. Unfortunately, he had to sacrifice the music in order to save the musician. This is the only title I never had in my collection. Thanks for sharing it. I may also grab a sonic upgrade of 'Collage'. Much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend that lives in the same little town in Mexico where he lives, has bumped into him a couple of times and tells he's an absolute joy to talk to. He also does some projects with local children and so on... seems to be very happy with his life these days... It does give me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that he is doing good.
DeleteThanx for these Gasca, Love Supreme !
ReplyDeleteTerry Bozzio and Jack DeJohnette on the same album - I already like this! : )
ReplyDeleteThanx very much, but... I can't download this .... my system detects a virus :-/
